Crocodiles

A missionary was called to preach the gospel to a people that had never heard of Jesus. So he got into a canoe and started working his way up a river. He went deeper and deeper into the jungle, farther than any one from the civilized world had ever traveled . As he came around a bend in the river, he saw a large village on the river bank ahead.

As he approached, a large group of villagers gathered to see this newcomer so different than themselves. When he got out of his canoe he was surprised and delighted that the language that the villagers spoke was very close to a dialect that he already knew.  Before long he was sharing the story of Jesus with them which they received and immediately they all accepted Jesus as their Savior.  The elders of the village decided to have a great feast to honor their new found faith in God and the man that had followed God’s leading to bring the good news to them.

As they celebrated, a large crocodile came out of the water and grabbed a man by his arm. The man fought pounding on the crock’s snout until it let him go.  The man was quickly taken away to be cared for and the rest of the people continued with the celebration just as if the incident had never happened.

This shocked the missionary and he leaned over to the elder that was seated next to him and asked: "Why did the people not react to the crocodile attack?"  The elder explained: "In our culture it is not polite to speak of crocodiles and would you refrain from mentioning the creature again!"   Suddenly, as if scales had dropped from his eyes, he began to see many people around him with scars of attacks.  The more he observed, the more evidence he saw that there was not one family that had not been touched by a crocodile attack.

It is Our Experience that Pornagraphy and Sexual Affliction is a tremendous problem in our culture!

Lives are scarred, Marriages destroyed, Families are broken, Jobs are lost,
Ministries crumble and We remain Silent, because, in
Our Culture it’s not polite to Speak of this Crocodile!

Our Mission Statement

We are a Christian Ministry dedicated to “breaking the secret by breaking the silence” about the "Affliction of Addiction.”  Deep Harbors Ministries helps the Christian Community and those afflicted with Pornography and Sexual Addiction by building bridges through the understanding of our call in Galatians 6:1-2.

To achieve this we provide Bible based and Christ centered presentations that are designed for inform and equip. These presentations encourage a dialog that will result in positive actions and ministry to meet current challenges like the sexual amorality that controls our culture today.  Our experience in healing from pornography and sexual affliction aids us to encourage others to breakdown Satan's stronghold of addictions.

We teach the three R’s (Recovery Imperatives in the battle of the “Affliction of Addiction"):

Redemption (the Lord's response)

Repentance (the Individual’s response)

Reconciliation (the Community’s response).

In addition, we provide resources and assistance to aid communities to begin a recovery ministry or to enhance a current program.

Can We Talk…?

I once heard that the most common movie line is “Let’s get out of here”.  I’m sure that “Can we talk?” ranks very high on that list, as well.  Our ministry focus is to help create an environment within the Christian community where we can talk about the problem of pornography and sexual addiction in a safe and caring manner.  Many among us suffer in the silence that we had created by talking only about the evils of the problem rather than sharing the hope of freedom and recovery.  By doing this we have created isolation where God calls us to community.

Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

(Galatians 6:1)

The solution to the problem is in community and we are committed to do all that we can to build that community.

As a couple, we bring a unique perspective to the challenge of the “Affliction of Addiction”.  We offer both a man’s and a woman’s perspective.  By sharing what we have learned on our road of recovery, we offer hope to individuals and couples that have been caught in the snare of affliction.  To the community we give insight that can result in understanding and action to meet the problem.

Our Presentations are thirty-five to ninety minutes in length and can be tailored to your specific ministry needs. Our seminar/retreat contains six hours of vital ministry which will provide you with answers and resources to safely deal with many recovery issues.

Deep Harbors  (Places for Recovery)

During our recovery journey, we discovered how ill equipped many Christians are in dealing with the “Affliction of Addiction” and even more so with “Secret Addictions”.  God in His love directed us to the people and places where we found help.  We discovered many resources that are available in the battle for recovery.

A Deep Harbor is a community that has both the depth and the understanding to provide support and help to the afflicted with the hurts and hang-ups that are at the roots of all addictions. This community breaks the silence by pursuing different ways to communicate that we are all broken people and that we all suffer from the brokenness of sin.

Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will

fulfill the law of Christ

(Galatians 6:2)

In addition we need individuals to answer His call.  People who have journeyed down the road of recovery or people interested in helping.  Every Deep Harbor needs Tugboats to come along side the burdened ships to assist them safely to a pier.  We need people who will to come along side the afflicted in God’s love and walk down the road of recovery with them.
